Why Dashboards Are the Best Use Case for AI Design (15.7% of All Prompts)

Dashboards were the single most requested design type across 11,624 real Figma AI prompts. Here is why they suit AI generation better than any other layout —.

Across 9,133 classified prompts from real Fluvara users, dashboards, analytics views and admin panels accounted for 15.7% — the largest single category, ahead of mobile apps (12.4%), e-commerce (7.4%) and landing pages (6.6%).

Dashboards are structured, not creative

A dashboard is a known grammar: navigation, header, stat cards, charts, a data table. The creative decisions are few and the layout labour is enormous. That ratio is exactly what AI generation is good at — it removes the tedium without taking away the parts a designer actually wants to own.

They are also where hand-layout hurts most

Eight stat cards in Auto Layout with consistent padding, then a chart area that has to stay aligned at two breakpoints, then a table with status pills — this is 30 to 60 minutes of nudging per screen. Generated once and adjusted, it is minutes.

What to include in a dashboard prompt

  • Domain — logistics, healthcare, fintech. It drives which metrics appear.
  • Navigation items — name them; you get a real sidebar instead of "Menu 1".
  • The exact widgets — how many KPI cards, which chart types, what the table columns are.
  • Theme and accent colour — otherwise you get default light blue.
  • Empty and loading states, if you want them — most people forget, then hand-build them later.

Where AI still needs you

Generated dashboards get structure right and data semantics wrong. Chart data is plausible but invented, and metric names drift toward generic ("Total Revenue", "Active Users"). Treat the output as the layout being solved and the content as your job.
